At Quinta San Francisco, our traditional and natural cuisine reflects a deep respect for local ingredients and time-honored recipes. Every day we prepare a balanced, natural menu with high-quality ingredients, locally sourced and often from our own garden.
If you're looking for more options, we’ll be happy to guide you. In Castrojeriz and its surroundings, tradition meets innovation to offer a unique culinary experience. From churro lamb and fried eggs with black pudding and pork bits to exquisite Wagyu cured beef or delicate Palencia peas sautéed with squid, every dish is a tribute to the region and the craftsmanship of its chefs.
Mesón de Castrojeriz
Just a five-minute walk from the hotel, this classic Castilian tavern is a local favorite — not only for Castrojeriz’s residents but also for the people of the surrounding Odra Pisuerga region.
Traditional cuisine with a daily menu adapted to pilgrims and an à la carte option. Roast lamb is available by request. Our recommendation: Lamb chops.
Finca Santa Rosalía
In Vizmalo, 20 km from Castrojeriz, you’ll find this impressive estate where wine is produced, and red-legged partridges and Wagyu cattle are raised.
The menu mainly features products grown or raised on the estate — not overly elaborate, but of excellent quality and flavor.
Highlights include their meats and partridge salads. And don’t miss their "caviar" — their name for Wagyu cured beef. Although the restaurant is large, booking in advance is highly recommended.
Los Palmeros Restaurant
In the nearby Palencian town of Frómista, 27 km from the Quinta, you’ll find this renowned and award-winning restaurant.
Once a pilgrim hospital, it is now a must-visit culinary stop along the Camino de Santiago. Run by the Rayón family, it offers updated Castilian cuisine with a wide selection of cheeses, extra virgin olive oils, and a fine wine cellar. Booking is essential.
Our recommendation: Palencia garden peas sautéed with squid, and the milk-fed lamb shoulder.
Mesón Los Templarios
Also located in Palencia, in the small town of Villalcázar de Sirga, 40 km from Castrojeriz.
Run by Pablo the innkeeper, this tavern is a national reference for enjoying the famous churro lamb roast.
A lively spot with long communal tables, it retains the charming, old-fashioned atmosphere of traditional Castilian inns and hearty meals.
Our recommendation: Roast lamb, salad, and San Marcos cake.
